๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐: ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐
Over the years, in line of duty, I have travelled to almost every Sub-County in Kitui County, both before the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution when Kitui County was Kitui District and now as Kitui County, years later after the promulgation of the new Constitution.
During these different times, I had a chance to observe, experience and feel the depth of the socio-economic development when Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka was the highly regarded Ukambani defunct political leader and make comparisons with Hon. Charity Kaluki Ngilu's regime.
Honestly, but sadly, I did not and I have not observed or experienced anything worth noting during Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka's reign. What is only worth noting are the comparative development disparities between Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka's and Hon. Ngilu's regime.
Truly, but shockingly, my observation disparities are highly significant, to the breadth that I feel scandalous to inscribe or even speak about them.
However, I will disregard and hold onto my shame to accentuate a little, but in-depth, about Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka's leadership.
It was yesterday's bus tragedy on River Enziu, that claimed more than 15 innocent lives, that drove me to revisit and do a desk review research about Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka's development track history, both at the national level and locally, for the period he served in Moi and Kibaki's government.
Ironically, Kalonzo was born in the remote part of Mwingi District, then part of Kitui District, where yesterday's tragedy involving Mwingi Catholic Choir Members ensued. The then young, energetic and optimistic Kalonzo, a lawyer, was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kitui North and Mwingi North where he served for 12 (twelve) years and 16 (sixteen) years respectively for the two constituencies.
Cumulatively, as a Member of Parliament, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka served for 28 years between 6th July 1985 to 9th June 2013. Kalonzo was only 32 years, the age bracket of the majority of unemployed youths in Kenya when he was elected as a Member of Parliament.
In Moi's government, between 5th May 1986 to 1st January 1988, Hon. Kalonzo served as an Assistant Minister for Works, Housing and Physical Planning. A total of 2 (two) years.
He was then elevated to a Ministerial position by the then President, the Late Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, where he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations for 5 years from 8th June 1993 to 1st July 1998.
Man Stevo, as he desires to call himself, partially served for 3 (three) years, both in Moi and Kibaki's government, as the Minister of Education and Human Resource Development between 6th October 1998 to 6th March 2001.
During Kibaki's regime, Man Stevo, popularly also known as 'Watermelon' among his political foes and funs, served for one year as the Minister of Tourism and Information between 6th February 2001 to 30th November 2002.
On the 1st of January 2003, President Kibaki appointed Man Stevo as the Minister of Foreign Affairs where he served for slightly over one year until the 14th of August 2004.
Still, under Kibaki's regime, Man Stevo was later appointed as the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources between 3rd August 2004 to 7th September 2005.
President Kibaki would then appoint him as the Vice President of the Republic of Kenya where he also served as a Minister for Home Affairs between 9th January 2008 to 9th April 2013. Cumulatively serving a total of 6 (six) years.
For a record of 48 years as the defunct leader of Ukambani, and as a celebrated leader in his own birthplace, Mwingi, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka had the platform and the powers to negotiate and mobilize for resources from within and outside the government.
Resources that would have, in many ways, improved the Socio-Economic Status and Socio-Economic Position of his people. For the 48 years, I frankly and brutally find nothing, absolutely nothing, to commemorate Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka's leadership.
On a Likert Scale of 1-10, I would confidently rank his development track record at 2; very poor. I would have wished to rank him at position 1 (extremely poor), but to save him from the public ridicule, I will not. Though, deep in my consciousness, I am not sure that I want to save him the public derision.
Man Stevo's 48 years of leadership are not any closer comparative to Hon. Ngilu's leadership or even his Makueni and Machakos stone-away throw neighbours, Hon. Kivutha Kibwana, and Hon. Dr. Alfred Mutua, and miles far away from home, our own Governor Hon. Governor Kiraitu Murungi, all who have served fewer years than he has.
Man Stevo's 48 years of leadership are not any closer comparative to that of the first time MPs the likes of Hon. John Kj Kiarie, among others, who are doing magnificently and extremely very well for their constituents.
Fellow Kenyans, not that I have any personal vendetta against Man Stevo. I absolutely got none. It's just that I haven't seen, I don't see, and I am still struggling to see and equate any tangible development to the Hon. Musyoka's more than 4 (four) decades of leadership.
The only vendetta is my traumatizing worry. I worry that the people of Mwingi and we Kenyans, in general, will probably be deluded to elect this man as the President or Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya despite his 48 years proven record of LITTLE or NO development- both nationally and at his birthplace in Mwingi.
Ni Gute.
May the souls of the departed, the Mwingi Catholic Choir Members, rest in the greener pastures of the timely rains.
