LET AKOTHEE BE THE WOMAN SHE IS

Over the last few days, we have been holed up at the Safari Park 5 Star Hotel discussing matters concerning Social Behaviour Change in Africa at the 1st African Social Behaviour Conference. A conference that brought together more than 1,000 delegates from across the world who included researchers, corporate people, government representatives and Small and Medium Enterprise businesses.

Kenyan singer, Akothee
In relationship to the Social Behaviour Change theme, allow me now to discuss matters concerning Akothee, whose talk has been trembling the lips of almost every Kenyan, matters that have made the lips of even those who have never known morals, busy dancing to the immorality song. We cannot progress if we continue with the same thought and slogan of "everything is immoral". We need to transform our thinking. We need to transform how we perceive people, things and or places. This is only possible we engage and agree to drive the social behaviour change agenda.

First, I want to put it clearly that I have zero problem(s) with Akothee's dress code; in her performance in Malindi or any other prior performance to this. I want to put it clear crystal, that her dress code got nothing to do with her morals. She is in showbiz business and her career deserves that she excites and thrills her funs the best way she likes and importantly, to the best way that her funs enjoys. Akothee is out to re-engineer our negative thoughts that anyone engaged in secular music is immoral. Her drive is consistent with the theme of the conference that we just concluded.

If you have a problem with Akothee's dress code, please also have a problem with yourself in those micro bikinis during your Easter Holiday's and Christmas holidays in Mombasa, Dubai, Zanzibar or somewhere in Naivasha. Walking aimlessly with that micro mini that often gets flipped off by the Indian Ocean Monsoon winds revealing the forbidden fruits and its seed leaving other beach revellers eyes wide open and mouths wide open in amazement. Did anyone come complain of your dress code in Coast following the pictures that you smeared all over social media? Did we call you names following the entertainment of our eager to watch eyes and watery mouths resulting from the natural action by the Indian Ocean Monsoon winds? Did we sing the immorality song that the "moral sheriffs" are hypocritically break dancing to the tune?  No, we didn't. Let Akothee be the woman she is.

If you have a problem with Akothee's dress code, please write an open letter to Hon. CS Najib Balala addressing the issue of the millions of foreign tourists along the coastline beaches who walk almost naked and bring in billions of income to the Kenyan economy. Let Akothee be the woman she is.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we would rather focus on important issues like legalizing safe abortion to save the many women dying prematurely as a result of unsafe abortion from unqualified personnel. Lets put effort of pushing for the end of these day and night relationship related murders and extra judicial killings of our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters. We would rather put out efforts and brains in trying to getting solutions to the corruption mammoth that is threatening the economic stability of  this country. We would rather focus on discussing the high unemployment rates of the youth in this country and not Akothee's dress code; Akothee who has brilliantly created her own employment and employed tens of others. Let Akothee be the woman she is.

The writer is a strong advocate of women health rights and social justice for all.
